Nitrous Oxide (N2O Cream Chargers)
Cream Chargers Manufacturers Safety Information

Standard 8g-16g Nitrous Oxide Cream Chargers

A nitrous oxide cream charger is a cylindrical steel or aluminum cartridge containing approximately 8g-16g of nitrous oxide. The narrow end of the charger is sealed with foil, which is broken to release the gas. This is achieved by a sharp pin inside the whipped cream dispenser.

Larger Nitrous Oxide Cream Chargers

A nitrous oxide canister, available in stainless steel or aluminum, comes filled with a larger quantity of nitrous oxide. The larger Smartwhip canisters can also be used with a whipped cream dispenser by following this system:

  1. Attach the pressure regulator to the N2O cylinder.

  2. Detach the adapter from the pressure regulator hose and screw it onto the cream dispenser.

  3. Fill the whipped cream dispenser with recipe ingredients, close the lid.

  4. Connect the pressure regulator hose to the cream dispenser using the push-pull connector, ensuring the flow switch is OFF (a click sound indicates connection).

  5. Open the flow switch, adjust the barometer for desired pressure, referring to the Smartwhip pressure table for guidance.

  6. When the hissing stops, turn the flow switch OFF and disconnect the hose.

  7. Shake the cream dispenser, attach the decorating tip, and release the contents as with a standard 8g cream charger.

Cream Deluxe canisters can also be used:

  1. Screw the pressure regulator with the quick connector onto the bottle and tighten.

  2. Repeat if no gas is released.

  3. Dispose of the empty bottle by unscrewing and removing the pressure regulator.

Note: Cream Chargers are age-restricted; you must be at least 18 years old to purchase. N2O is restricted due to pressurization and potential misuse. Misuse for its psychoactive properties is illegal under the Psychoactive Substances Act of 2016. We strictly discourage any misuse of nitrous oxide.

Disposal: Used chargers are non-refillable but fully recyclable in steel recycling programs. To be properly recycled, chargers must be emptied of gas before recycling.

Storage: Keep Cream Chargers out of reach of those under 18. Store in a cool place (under 50°C) away from direct heat. Nitrous oxide is non-flammable but can oxidize; proper storage is crucial.

Risks Associated with Improper Use of Nitrous Oxide:

The improper use of Nitrous Oxide involves intentionally inhaling the gas for its psychoactive effects, and such actions fall under the Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 in the United Kingdom. This legislation aims to regulate the production, sale, and supply of psychoactive substances, including Nitrous Oxide, which is now deemed illegal for recreational purposes as of 2016.

While Nitrous Oxide has long been a staple in the culinary industry and remains legal for legitimate applications, it has unfortunately gained popularity as a substance misused for its impact on the central nervous system when inhaled. Increased media coverage has contributed to its rise in popularity. Discount Cream strongly opposes and discourages any misuse of Nitrous Oxide. Our commitment to preventing misuse is evident through extensive safeguarding measures. We reserve the right to deny the sale of N2O to individuals we find unsuitable, suspicious of potential misuse, or under the age of 18.

In a controlled medical environment, professionals use Nitrous Oxide safely for medical aesthetic purposes, employing proper equipment and procedures. Attempting self-administration outside of the medical industry poses immediate risks of fatality through asphyxiation (choking due to oxygen deprivation). Long-term physical and mental side effects can also result from such misuse. It's crucial to note that the commonly referred to "Laughing Gas" is not pure N2O, as found in cream chargers; rather, it is a combination of about 70% Oxygen and 30% Nitrous Oxide.

Potential Hazards of Misusing Nitrous Oxide

Oxygen Deprivation:

Consequences of Nitrous Oxide Misuse The recreational use of nitrous oxide as a method to achieve a 'high' is gaining popularity, even though its strength is comparatively lower than other anesthetics. This increased misuse stems from a misconception that its reduced potency corresponds to a lesser risk. However, this correlation is inaccurate. Despite being a less potent drug by certain standards, nitrous oxide induces euphoria and has the potential to significantly alter behavior when abused.

Potential for Brain Damage

Misusing nitrous oxide without proper oxygen mixture during inhalation can lead to hypoxia, a severe medical condition resulting from reduced oxygen content in the blood. Users seeking a more intense experience may inhale large amounts, jeopardizing the essential oxygen crucial for breathing. Irreversible brain damage can occur after just one instance of hypoxia.

Asphyxiation causing Death

Fatality due to nitrous abuse is not uncommon. Some individuals resort to risky practices like placing their heads inside plastic bags filled with nitrous oxide, securing them around the neck. Users may not grasp the extreme danger of pursuing a heightened high without adequate oxygen, potentially leading to unconsciousness, hyperthermia, and other life-threatening complications.

Damage to the Nervous System

While nitrous oxide is considered safe in a controlled medical environment, prolonged and excessive recreational use can have devastating effects. The gas's extremely cold flow during improper administration can result in damage to the vocal cords, frostbite to the lungs, and respiratory issues. Inhaling nitrous oxide with facemasks, a common practice at parties, poses additional dangers.

Laughing Gas Abuse:

Long Term Dangers Regular use of nitrous oxide can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, causing various vascular diseases. Pregnant individuals should avoid inhalation due to potential fetal deformities. Continuous misuse may result in injuries such as concussions or fractures, further emphasizing the long-term risks associated with nitrous oxide abuse.

Personality Disorders

Due to Long Term Use Nitrous oxide addiction can result in lasting personality and mood disorders, along with irreversible damage to the bone marrow or nervous system. Even after ceasing abuse, these issues may persist, affecting an individual's overall well-being.

Side-effects from Taking with Meals Excessive inhalation or inhalation after meals can cause nausea and extreme stomach pain, adversely impacting long-time users.

Loss of Control of Bodily Functions

Extended nitrous oxide use can lead to loss of motor control, with users admitted to hospitals unable to walk or with limited control over bodily functions. Tingling sensations in the feet may progress to a complete loss of feeling or pain over time.

Recovery – Irreversible Damage Once a user begins to lose the use of limbs due to nitrous oxide abuse, recovery may take months, with no guarantee of regaining the same quality of life. Some damage is irreversible, serving as a cautionary tale against the fleeting pleasure of nitrous oxide abuse.

Damage to Hearing

Individuals with hearing problems may experience exacerbated issues, with constant exposure to nitrous oxide potentially leading to complete hearing loss.

Permanent Mutations in DNA Prolonged exposure to nitrous oxide may affect a person's DNA, with adverse outcomes possible after more than two hours of exposure.

Vegans

Vegans are advised to avoid significant nitrous exposure due to the potential for vitamin B12 deficiency. Pregnant vegan women should especially refrain from nitrous oxide use to protect their unborn child.

Fatal Anaesthetic

Nitrous oxide, when used recreationally, progresses through stages from drowsiness to unconsciousness. Excessive use may lead to loss of consciousness, coma, and ultimately, cessation of breathing, potentially resulting in a fatal outcome.

Choking

Similar to pre-surgical fasting recommendations, nitrous oxide users may experience nausea. If unsupervised, there's a risk of inhaling vomit and choking to death.

Addictions

What may start as occasional recreation can escalate into uncontrollable addiction, negatively impacting an individual's quality of life and potentially leading to an untimely death. Taking care of our bodies is a responsibility we owe to ourselves and our loved ones, avoiding substances that can cause devastating effects.
